How the ordinal day is computed

The day-of-year value, sometimes called the ordinal date, is produced by summing the lengths of all completed months before your target month and then adding the day within the current month. For April 10 in a common year, the tool adds 31 (January) + 28 (February) + 31 (March) + 10 = day 100. In a leap year, the same date becomes day 101 because February contributes 29 days instead of 28. The calculation is a simple lookup plus an addition, but it depends on correctly identifying whether the year satisfies the leap year rule: divisible by 4, except century years, which must also be divisible by 400.
